Talking about preferences can help you understand what you have in common with someone.

Use both and neither to talk about two choices. You can use them to give one-word answers to questions.

Use both to show that you like choice one and choice two.

Use neither to show that you don’t like choice one or choice two.

Yeah, I listen to music a lot.

Sofia:

Neither. I only like K-pop.

Sofia:

Oh, you two like different kinds of music. Um, how about animals? Lorenzo is an animal lover.

TRIVIA

To ask about someone’s personality, you can use the pattern Are you a ___ person or a ___ person? Other examples include Are you a night person or a morning person? and Are you an indoor person or an outdoor person?
